at a glance

It was due to this important tank, or 'tanque' in Portuguese, that the location earned its name, when over time, a residential area began to emerge around it. In the 20th Century, the tank stopped being used and was replaced by a fountain - a source of great pride to residents until it was removed in 2014.

The neighborhood has a few roads which serve as the main transport arteries for people, products and services. They all converge at the historical center of the neighborhood, where the Largo do Tanque was once situated. Among them is Rua Cândido Cenício, from the north, and Avenida Geremário Dantas from the South.

there is a good amount of commerce centred around this area, including the Mamma Mia Pizzaria, and the bakery, Casa dos Nonos, a supermarket and several smaller establishments. arrow-back      arrow-forward
