another attraction in the neighborhood is the forte de copacabana, at the end of the beach - a fort that was constructed, in 1914, to strengthen the city's defenses, it was eventually transformed into a cultural center, in 1987.

now the forte de copacabana hosts a number of permanent exhibitions, a museum, a library and a café, which have made it a popular destination for visitors.

copacabana is also home to a gorgeous city park - called parque da chacrinha, it is not widely know, even by local residents, yet its is home to gorgeous flora and fauna, and easily accessible on foot.

known as one of the party capitals of the world, rio de janeiro lives up to its reputation on new years eve, with much of the celebrations centered in copacabana - réveillon is the biggest party of the year, which attracts an estimated two million people, and takes place on copacabana beach. arrow-back      arrow-forward
