at a glance

this photographic collection records important events in the development of scientific and botanic knowledge about biodiversity issues, including various brazilian expeditions which resulted in the drawing of an inventory of national flora. the themes of exploitation and conservation of natural resources are addressed in many forms.

the museum was closed in 2010 until 2012 for refurbishment and later received further renovations with the construction of an architecturally sustainable annex.   this annex has received the seal of energy efficiency of the national program for energy conservation - procel as it will use sustainable materials.

designed by the winner of a public competition coordinated by the institute of architects of brazil  - iab it will have an exhibition space of one thousand square meters, which will house permanent exhibitions, and will contain an auditorium - the museu do meio ambiente is located on rua jardim botânico, 1008, jardim botânico, and can be contacted via phone at 21. 2294.6619, via email on this link, or via the museum's official website here.
