urca is home to a few very quiet and beautiful beaches, including the very beach where the city of rio de janeiro, at that time called são sebastião do rio de janeiro, was founded - praia do forte.

with the most popular of urca's beaches being the small praia vermelha, or 'red beach' facing the atlantic ocean and  gifted with an unique view of the sugar loaf, the sandy shores of this neighborhood are a pleasant alternative to the larger beaches of the zona sul.

opposite praia vermelha, on the other side of the district, praia da urca is a small beach offering one of the most beautiful skyline night views of the city and of the christ on corcovado.
