at a glance

founded in 1960, adega da velha, meaning old winery, prides itself on serving traditional cuisine inspired by brazil's northeastern states - regional dishes include dried beef with onion, fried cassava and melted cheese curds, and the carioca staple feijoada, a stew made from pork and beans.

the dish originated after the first portuguese settlers, who refused to eat left over pork and therefore offered it to the slaves who sharply concocted the dish - visitors and locals venture from all over the world to taste the bar's famous feijoada, made with generous amounts of cheese, dried meat, and perfectly accompanied with a specially made caipirinha.

bahian style food also plays a starring role on the menu with many spicy and seafood based options - typically relying on ingredients sourced from africa such as azeite-de-dendê, an oil derived from palm trees first introduced to brazil during colonial times.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
