for over 50 years modern scuba diving has been present in brazil - it was first used for military purposes but shortly after transitioned into a leisure activity. the 1970's saw a number of instructors begin autonomous diving organizations, making it one of the first water sports to be popularized in brazil.

once national and international certifiers arrived many schools were created, offering diving courses for all levels - today, diving is popular throughout the country, it is considered an important facet of tourism in brazil and  various scuba facilities are available for visitors to learn and practice.
