at a glance

the earliest rulebook for golf resides in the national library of scotland, and is dated in 1744 - it was created for the gentlemen golfers of leith club, which was the first organization to orchestrate golf competitions. golf was not well received in europe for many years - in the 19th century it started to gain popularity - after its momentum grew, so did the amount of countries participating in local and national tournaments.

though the game, and especially the equipment, has undergone many changes, its basic premise remains the same - players' use specially designed clubs to hit a small ball through a uniquely arranged course - the objective is to place the ball into a hole, in the fewest strokes possible - the number of holes varies depending on the course.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
