kayaking is an activity used  to move across  water as both a leisure and sporting acitivy - it is different from canoeing based on the paddler facing forward, with  double blade paddles, and the design of the kayak - in some countries kayaking is considered a form of canoeing.

kayaking has a lengthy history linked back thousands of years to inuits who relied on boats for hunting, fishing and transportation - the structures of the kayaks were made from driftwood and animal bones with the outside covered in animal skin.

in 1931 a german by the name of adolf anderle became the first person to white water kayak down the salzachofen gorge in austria and thus created the initial spark for the activity today.
