karting as it is known today, did not develop until more than a decade later, in 1956 - a race car designer named art ingels, known as the father of karting, constructed the first 'go kart' in southern california, and began holding races in the area. after 1956  kart racing became wildly popular, and within the several years the activty spread across the united states and the world.

in the 1960s, kart mini, still a prominent manufacturer and sponsor, built a factory in brazil - this action propelling karting's popularity throughout the nation. during this time the biggest brazilian races were the brazilian championship, brazil cup, brazil grand prix and inter-state championships - these competitions were held in a number of states.
