paintball is a tactical game that uses paintball guns, sometimes called markers, in combination with ammunition to shoot opponents safely, and in a controlled environment. various paintball games are in existence and include capture the flag, total elimination, and military style missions.

the activity generally has two teams which start on opposing sides of the playing field. participants interact with natural, and manmade, obstacles to stalk and hunt their opponents - the main objective is to shoot opposing players enough times to remove them from the game.
