at a glance
the history of billiards traces back many centuries to northern europe, most likely france, where it developed from a croquet like lawn game. to mimic the outdoor settings of grassy green fields, wooden tables were coated in green felt - instead of striking the balls with long poles, wooden sticks were used to push the balls.

the style and desgin of billiards has taken many different forms and included a variety of obstacles and rules. these table games were very popular with royal families in europe - there is some docoumentation that some individuals called the activity the 'noble game of billiards'.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
