the history of billiards traces back many centuries to northern europe, most likely france, where it developed from a croquet like lawn game. to mimic the outdoor settings of grassy green fields, wooden tables were coated in green felt - instead of striking the balls with long poles, wooden sticks were used to push the balls. |
