at a glance

the ocean is a huge and powerful part of our world and it has fascinated humanity probably since the first time a person glanced upon it, and never stopped to do so since then - the polynesian people are one of those who created a greater link with the waters developing an impressive technique for leaping across the islands of the pacific ocean.

it probably was somewhere along their vast history that what would be known as surf was invented - forms of bodyboard had existed for a long time, but the use of a board to ride the wave is a relatively recent invention.

the practice of surf was first described by westerns when the british reached hawaii, and the archipelago remained its most important center up to this day - the sport arrived in brazil in the 20th century by the hands of visitors and airline workers who brought their own boards with them.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
