the convent, found at the bottom of the guia hill next to the feliciano sodré bridge, is a fine architectural landmark dating back to the colonial period - located next to the chapel's central nave can be seen the franciscan cemetery and the chapel of our lady of guia.

built in 1837 as an orphanage, charitas - pronounced káritas and meaning 'house of charity' - is now a dynamic space used for workshops, lectures, presentations and musical events.
