on average 60 visitors enter through the doors each day although during peak season over 200 visitors arrive daily -  charitas is open from monday to friday 8am - 8pm, while on  saturdays, sundays and holidays the doors only open from 2pm  to 8pm.

the church of saint benedict - built in 1701 to hold mass for the slaves - is also a must see attraction, so too the forte são mateus, built in 1616 by portuguese settlers to defend the coastline against the dutch, english and french.  

cabo frio also boasts igreja de são benedito - this curious neighborhood has since been transformed into a popular tourist spot since being established during wealthier times.
