the second building, the palácio austregésilo de athayde, was built in 1979, and is where the directors of the academy work. a more modest structure, the palace hosts some of the institutions cultural events, as well as the rodolfo garcia library.

the academia brasileira de letras is not only an important location for cultural events, but also holds a vast collection of literature and documents across its two libraries, which includes 90,000 volumes of books, textual documents, photographs, personal archives of academic and institutional documents, amongst many more artifacts.
