The academia brasileira de letras hosts free events throughout the year to encourage debate, reflection and broaden discourse on topics related to language and literature.

The institution runs a number of annual Conference Cycles, in which one discussion is held per week relating to a wider topic.

past conference themes included  'Strands of Brazilian Literature', which examined journalism, the crime novel, science fiction and poetry in prose,  'New Looks', which considered the genius of figures like Einstein and Mozart, and the dialogue between the geographic east and west.
