O Rio de Janeiro da Pacificação (The Rio de Janeiro of Pacification), by Paul Knauss is A collection of six chapters in which the author, Paul Knass, addresses the episode of the French Antarctic and the instatement of Portuguese colonial rule in America. It shows how the French attempt at occupation provoked the Portuguese military response which resulted in the foundation of Rio de Janeiro; depicts the historical setting of maritime and commercial expansion and the parties involved, particularly Portugal, France and Tupinabás; seeks to demonstrate the battle practices adopted by the state, which were legitimized by the construction of the ideals of pacification.
