Dos Trapiches ao Porto (Piers of the Port) by Sergio Tadeu de Niemeyer Lamarão is a dense and meticulous work of investigation and analysis into the port activities undertaken in the name of the expansion of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Sergio Tadeu de Niemeyer Lamarão covers a long period, from the colonial era until 1911, when the first portion of the monumental port works were inaugurated, which had begun in 1904 under the government of Rodrigues Alves. The study of the port productions was undertaken to track changes, internal ruptures and the new special layout of the area itself, in other words, the relationship between port development and the global, historical dynamic of the city.
