The library collection consists of master and doctoral theses on the history of the city, an invaluable research tool, two catalogues of the works of João do Rio and of the photographer, Augusto Malta, two works of fiction, a work containing photographs of the 1968 protests, as well as texts produced by chroniclers of Rio and its creations.

The series Cadernos de Comunicação (Communication Notebooks) saves and archives the memory of Rio's press and print media, as well as academic works. In 2006, this collection won the Prêmio Luiz Beltrão (Luiz Beltrão Award) in the category of Innovative Group, from the Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos Interdisciplinares de Comunicação (Brazilian Society of Interdisciplinary Studies in Communication).
