located to the immediate north of the rock is the small devil's beach(praia do diabo), especially coveted by beach-goers eager for a calmer place to spend the day, or for surfers looking for strong waves. devils'beach ends in the copacabana fort.   

to the south there's the arpoador beach, named after the rock itself, a small batch of sand, less than half a mile wide, and which actually corresponds to the first section of the wider ipanema beach.
