at a glance

after five years of continuous construction works, costing the equivalent of quarter of a million dollars, christ the redeemer was finally opened to the public on 12th october 1931. 

over 1,000 tonnes of reinforced concrete was used to create the statue with no causalities during the building phase, which given the scale and length of the project at that time, was surprising - 'miraculous', according to some.
