the weekends are the busiest time in the park, when families and groups of friends enjoy picnics and playing sport - the aterro has a long sporting tradition. it is used at the starting point for the many marathons that take place in rio on a yearly basis. furthermore the aterro is also utlised as one of the main stages of rio's main cycling races.

the carmen miranda musuem and the monument to fallen wwii soldiers can also be found within the park's boundaries, as well as the marina da glória, which in the past has been the main venue for international sailing competitions.
