2016 is set to be an important year for flamengo park as is scheduled to host some olympic events including athletics and road cycling. the paralympics are also taking place there, incorporating track and field and the marathon races.

while the park is not considered to be safe for visitors at night, the early mornings are a completely different story, as hundreds of health conscious runners and cyclists take advantage of the empty lanes and fresh sea air.
