The views on arrival are a feast for the eyes - one can see from recreio dos bandeirantes  to barra da tijuca, the mountains of Maciço da Tijuca, pedra branca, as well as the quaint islands that pepper the clear, vast ocean.

Afterwards, many opt for a relaxing swim in the clear beaches that line the rock. The area is also a popular spot for surfers, attracting an array of men and women to showcase and hone their talent all year round.

The rock gained its greatest acclaim from Tim Maia's famous lyrics, 'Do Leme ao Pontal, Não tem nada igual', which translates, 'From Leme to Pontal, there's nothing like it!' The Pedra do Pontal offers a lovely alternative excursion out into the sea, with beautiful vistas of the sandy shores and clear waters that surround it.
