one of the lesser-known, yet profoundly spectacular viewpoints in rio de janeiro, is the pedra do quilombo, sitting at an altitude of 736 meters, in the expansive pedra branca state park, in the zona oeste (west zone) of rio de janeiro city. the pedra do quilombo is a huge natural rock that overlooks the vast expanse of the park, and which offers some truly breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

one reason that it receives not as many visitors as other viewpoints in the city, may be the five and a half kilometer trail that is necessary to climb before reaching the rock, which requires a fair amount of physical fitness and hiking experience.
