The trail to the summit begins at the main entrance to parque nacional da tijuca (tijuca national park) in the region of alto da boa vista , around 45 minutes from Zona Sul, at the same spot at which the main trail to the peak of Tijuca starts.

The 5km roundtrip is shaded by the luscious greenery of the mata atlântica (Atlantic forest) and offers two decadent caves for explorations. The walk is quite strenuous, particularly the final stretch, which is steep and a little dangerous - one must use their hands to scramble through the roots and rocks that pave the ascent.

One should tread carefully, as the terrain can be slippery, particularly when wet. It is advisable to make the trip on a weekday to avoid the bustle of the crowds, and to avoid the afternoon as there can often be sudden weather changes and heavy rain.
