at a glance

the alto da boa vista, a name that roughly translates to 'belleview heights', is a neighborhood that covers most of the tijuca ridge and the respective tijuca national park.

this prized location places it in a central position within the city, surrounded by some of the most popular neighborhoods of zona sul (south zone), zona norte (north zone) and zona oeste (west zone), including são conrado, gávea, jardim botânico, humaitá and santa teresa, as well as, rio comprido, tijuca and grajaú in the north, and finally jacarepaguá and itanhangá in the west.

the region earned its name due to the abundance of magnificent views from the many hill tops. much of the woodland, which once existed in the area, was cleared to make space for coffee plantations in the early colonial era. with time accesses were built and enlarged, and more people started to move into the neighborhood. arrow-back      arrow-forward
