brás de pina is a neighborhood located in the north zone (zona norte) of rio - this bairro (neighborhood) is located near the neighborhoods of cordovil, penha circular, vila da penha, irajá and vista alegre.

this neighborhood received its name from the former owner of the large sugarcane plantation that was situated here during the eighteenth century. his name was brás de pina and his property went from the shore of baía guanabara (guanabara bay) to the road of the porto irajá (port of irajá) which is today called the avenida antenor navarro (antenor navarro avenue).
