bonsucesso is a neighborhood located in the north zone (zona norte), one of rio de janeiro three zones. bonsucesso is bordered by higienópolis, complexo do alemão, ramos, complexo do manguinhos, inhaúma, and complexo da maré.

the first railroad station (north rail), the estação na estrada de ferro norte (leopoldina) opened in 1886. the bairro is named in honor of dona cecilia vieira of bonsucesso, the original owner of the area where the bairro is.

bonsuc esso it is one of the north zone's most commercially developed bairros, however, it remains a predominantly  low-income residential community. furthermore, it is considered one of rio de janeiro's highest elderly housing areas.
