a cave worth getting to know in the world's second largest urban forest is known as gruta de eleutério, found along the estrada major archer in the circuito das grutas (cave circuit) - the winding path that leads to many caves in the tijuca forest.

gruta de eleuterio is among several other caves named after the former slaves of the governor of rio de janeiro. eleuterio was one of the slaves assigned to implement the major part of the reforestation process in 1861.
