the vistas of corcovado mountain ('hunchback' in portuguese) are also particularly stunning from the park. the mountain stands at 710 meters tall and it is home to the iconic christ the redeemer (cristo redentor). the statue stands at 30 meters tall  from head to toe, and is a commanding presence in the city's landscape.

the structure is an imposing symbol of Christianity and thousands of devout followers journey from all over the world to visit the site each year - in 2007 the statue was officially recognized as one of the seven modern wonders of the world.
