at a glance

the parque estadual da serra da tiririca, otherwise known as tiririca state park, is located in the coastal region covering niterói and maricá as well as the municipal of darcy ribeiro, which covers the island group that is commonly referred to as ilhas de niterói (niterói islands).

ilha do pai, ilha da măe and ilha da filha (father island, mother island and daughter island) extend in a southwesterly line from itaipú beach and morro das andorinhas in the city of niterói.

niterói sits in guanabara bay just across from rio de janeiro, with an actual distance of about 7 miles between the two. the actual road distance is a bit further, even with the bridge connecting the cities, and travelling by car generally takes about 30-45 minutes with traffic. niterói is quite large in itself, with its own unique heritage and attractions apart from those across the bay. arrow-back     arrow-forward
