the reserve was established as the first unit of its kind in 2013, following ongoing pressure from the community including local traditional fishermen, as well as community organizations and public institutions - the main purpose of the reserve is to protect the cultural heritage and livelihood of the local population of artisanal fishermen. industrial fishing, overfishing and ballast discharge into the waters is therefore prohibited within the limits of the protected zone.
