in the same area, established as one of rio de janeiro's meritorious state parks, parque estadual marinho do aventureiro (marine state park aventureiro) is a natural ocean retreat that hosts some of the region's most spectacular species.   

aimed to preserve the outstanding natural attributes of the state, the park protects a rich array of native marine flora and fauna, as well as promoting sustainable educational, recreational, and scientific pursuits within its area.

the parque estadual marinho do aventureiro takes up 15.5 square kilometers, of the southwestern part of the island, which accounts for nearly 10 percent of its total area.
