the cachoeiras (waterfalls) of rio ciganos and rio das pacas are numerous. the waterfalls range in size but most are around 10 meters high with plunge pool suitable for swimming and sunbathing. to get to the area it is necessary to trek through the tijuca national park and the trial leads past many interesting features, such as the represa dos ciganos (dam of the gypsies) and the cascata grande.

some of the waterfalls are a little difficult to reach, so a guide  who will be able to show visitors all the hidden spots comes in handy. visitors looking for an isolated patch can certainly find one in the area and these waterfalls are ideal for romantic couples. the trail is also laden with wildlife including hawks, snakes, rare multi-coloured butterflies, and monkeys. the water flowing from these particular falls is very cold, but it is also very clear and refreshing.
