there is also the chance to go horse riding and bird watching along the river banks. the region stands out as one of brazil's most important areas of ecotourism as a result of the crystal clear rivers, waterfalls, caves, forests, fauna and flora.

the rio mucuíba can be found in the neighbrhood of vargem grande in the west zone of rio de janeiro and is easily reached via the rua mucuíba. from the beginning of the trail it only takes a brisk ten-minute walk before the first waterfall comes into view. there are a few falls that tumble from the river's banks, many of which are particular favorites of cariocas, who often frequent the spots on the weekend with friends and family.
