the journey to the cachoeira do quebra waterfall in the tijuca neighborhood starts at rua pacheco leão before leading onto estrada dona castorina. after reaching the guardhouse at the entrance of the tijuca naional park, there lies a 20-minute trail.

the ascent is one of mild to moderate  difficulty and is possible for most people with a reasonable level of fitness and mobility. however, at a couple of points there are steep sections, that may require assistance from fellow trekkers over some natural obstacles.

on guided tours hikers are sometimes asked to link themselves together as a precaution, in case someone loses their footing, because the ground can be moist and slippery at times. once the trail has been successfully navigated, there are wonderful examples of lush fauna and flora on show, and of course the waterfall, a welcome source of refreshment and replenishment.
