opened in copacabana, on the beco das garrafas, in 1957, the intimate bottles bar unintentionally became one of the birthplaces of bossa nova - its location was perfect and it quickly became one of the few places where musicians, who made up the core of the bossa movement, would meet and perform informal shows to dazzled audiences - it was nicknamed 'fumaceiros', seeing as the small venue would quickly fill up with cigarette smoke - over the years it has played host to some of the biggest names in bossa nova, and continues to exist today as one of the spiritual homes of the genre, offering both traditional and modern shows. here is a list of venues one can visit for some soothing bossa nova on a sunday. |
