cariocas and brazilian alike are receptive to international sounds and ideas, but at the same time like to 'abrasileirar', or make a brazilian version, of genres and other foreign ideas -the creation of samba reggae in the early 1980s, credited to the group olodum and ilę aiyę, the first afro-bloco (or as they call it, 'black bloco'), who utilized a slower beat of samba, specifically in order to distinguish themselves from other samba groups.
