hip hop can trace its brazilian roots to the 'bailes black' (black balls/parties) held in rio de janeiro in the late 1970s - initially started as small gatherings of friends and the celebration of african american artists such as little richard, james brown and groups such as the commodores.

the events grew in popularity were soon seen in larger venues - today many parties are still called black parties when referencing to events with hip hop and rap music - here is a list of establishments one can visit to listen and dance to hip hop on a thursday.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
