at a glance
sertanejo can be categorized as two distinctive genres, one being sertanejo de raiz, also known as música caipira, which is the traditional type, and the other one being sertanejo universitário, which is the modern adaptation of the original musical style, with influences from other genres which include but are not limited to pop, rock, funk carioca, and american country  - the two sounds can be distinguished by their rhythm and lyrics, as well as the audience they generally attract - the majority of clubs and bars that lure young crowds normally feature sertanejo universitário seeing as most tunes have a danceable beat.
