the legend says that one night a very bright star suddenly blazingly illuminated the whole island and the bridge, where joáo was sitting, and when the sky returned to normal joáo was gone not to ever be seen again. next to the ponte da saudade, is yet another local landmark, the pedra dos namorados (rock of the lovers). today, many couples go to the pedra dos namorados to throw an object on top of it. the myth says that if the object stays on the rock, their wedding will happen soon, and their love will last forever.
