praia do pintor castagneto,
also known as praia dos
coqueiros, is located on the western side of
paquetá, offering a partial view of rio de
janeiro, and of the
island of brocoió.
originally named 'dos coqueiros'
(of the coconuts trees), this 350-meter beach was later renamed in
honor of the italian painter giovanni battista castagneto, a distinguished
artist who lived on this island for six months between 1897 and
1898, when his work was said to be at its peak.
while castagneto painted mostly
the ocean and landscapes, he also contributed to the painting of the
important
church
nossa senhora da candelária.
