on top of the nearby hill, near the far end of the beach, the church são francisco xavier adds to the charm of this area, and reminds its residents of the history of the area. 

similarly to the other beaches on this side on niterói, the waters are not always suitable for swimming, however they provide a perfect setting for windsurfing, sailing, and people learning these sports. 

as the beach is normally not overcrowded, many hang gliders and para gliders jumping for the nearby parque da cidade land here, especially on holidays and week-ends.
