the sand here is light in color, not extremely fine, but rather of average roughness. on the sand, many small fishing boats are stationed throughout the year, since the local fishermen's colony still maintains active fishing. since the 1970's, itaipú beach also includes a canal connecting the ocean to the nearby lagoa de itaipú. this lake is as popular with the locals as the beach itself, providing a perfect space for fishing, swimming, and canoeing especially for the elderly and for small children.
