this beach is also the final or passing point to many bus lines connecting various neighborhoods in niterói with the beaches on this side of town, including the bus line 33 connecting niterói 's center with the beaches of salinas, cáis, jurujuba, and the road leading to the adam and eve beaches. 

the area is home to a firefighters' station, a school, a hospital, and a few kiosks.  there are no lifeguards on duty, and no public restrooms on this beach.

the hospital, founded in 1853 and originally named hospital naval de santa isabel and meant to receive ill people who reached rio aboard vessels, was later used as a 'preventorium,' a place where people infected with or at risk of developing tuberculosis where placed to prevent the disease from spreading.   arrow-back     arrow-forward
