the smooth waters across from praia do preventório are not always suitable for swimming, yet these waters are among the best in the region for sailing and kayaking.

many of the people who enjoy this beach are residents of the nearby favela called morro do preventório.  the wide sands are used by young kids to play sports, and by some local fishermen to station and care for their small fishing bats.

the local importance of this beach stems from the nearby presence of the estação hidroviária de charitas, the marine station from where the boats connecting charitas and praça xv in rio de janeiro dock and depart.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
