easily recognizable by the huge rainbow flags marking this stretch, posto 8 is not only attended by lgbt crowd, but also by international artists, celebrities, and beautiful people in general.

the glbt section of the beach starts in front of rua farme de amoedo, one of the most lively and famous streets in ipanema, is marked by many and unmistakable rainbow flags and the never ending party mood on the beach. the stretch is also known as bolsa de valores (stock exchange) or palácio de cristal (crystal palace).

between 1971 and 1973, ipanema posto 8 was home to a pier that stretched into the ocean, creating the biggest waves ever seen in this stretch of the coast - even bigger waves than along the pedra do arpoador. today the spot is demarked by a viewpoint and remembered with nostalgia by many surfers of the time.  readers interested in looking at some vintage pictures of posto 8 and the pier from that time can do so via this video.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
