located in the zona sul, within the neighborhood by same name, botafogo beach is not a swimming destination due its unsuitable waters, yet it remains one of the most photographed beaches in rio de janeiro. clearly visible from both the pão de açúcar and the cristo redentor, this beach is also facing the enseada de botafogo, the very photogenic bay where many small sailboats and catamarans dock.

botafogo beach is set right across from the sugar loaf mountain (pão de açúcar), making this beach a wonderful spot to photograph both the iconic granite rock and the nearby morro da urca.

this beach is never crowded and is mostly attended by neighborhood's residents, along with people playing soccer on the sand or training for other sports. many cultural events and arts expositions are staged here, due its easy access and gorgeous views.
