located in rio's zona sul, in the são conrado neighborhood, praia de são conrado is a beautiful 2 km beach, not often visited by international visitors - except for hang gliders and para gliders who land here from pedra bonita. since most of the traffic going through são conrado goes through an avenue away from this beach, most people who are not familiar with rio do not see this area from their cars, and consequently do not get interested in visiting it.

commonly called praia de são conrado, due to the name of the neighborhood facing the beach, the official name of this beach is praia da gávea, named after the nearby pedra da gávea, the easily recognizable flat-top mountain that can be seen from many locations in rio. 

praia de são conrado has characteristically fine white sand, blue waters, strong waves, and a beautiful view of the surrounding morro dois irmãos, pedra bonita, and pedra da gávea.
